My 5yo daughter really wanted these for Xmas so they came from Santa. I'm glad Santa just got a little pack. They are a pain. They don't stick together well at all. We spray and respray many times and then let them dry for at least a day. They are fragile. The pen isn't very practical either. Luckily, in researching toys before xmas, we found fuse beads. These are much easier to work with, are less expensive and the end product is much stronger. Yes, you do have to use an iron to melt the beads together, but this is a much faster and easier process than spraying water on the pixos, waiting for them to dry and hoping they stay together.

Disclaimer: Apparently some people are very disappointed with moon sand. I don't have a tv and have never seen a commercial for it; perhaps the advertising is misleading. Having no expectations, my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this product.

Moon sand feels like sand, and acts similarly to slightly wet sand, though it is completely dry. This is a fun, hands-on product, but it IS messy. "Cement City" comes with molds for two types of bricks, a little construction worker (who, you can't quite tell from the pictures, but is flat in the back), a toy cement truck, and a smoothing trowel.

Pros:
-- Moon sand lends itself well to creativity. In addition to building small walls, we have had fun using other molds (cookie cutters, etc) to make additional shapes.
-- The plastic "case" this comes in makes this quite portable.
-- The trowel is a neat little tool for kids to learn to pay with.

Neutral:
-- The sand needs to be packed in pretty well for the bricks and models not to crumble, but it's completely doable, even for a preschooler.
-- As with play-doh, you can't keep the finished product, but you can use it again and again and again.

Cons:
-- You will get sand all over the place, so be sure to work in an area that is easy to sweep or vacuum.
-- It is difficult to get the truck to "crush" the bricks.

I see so many negative reviews for these but we love them! The crayons are cute and wash up sooo easily that it's not funny. The colors are vivid and the design made the crayons much easier for our son to hold.

I noticed a trend with the negative reviews. It seems that people are not showing their children how to properly use and care for the crayons. This concerns me and it's not really fair to bash a product because your child was too rough with it or bit the tip off. After all, it's a crayon! A child can bite the tip off of ANY crayon.

Our little boy has been using these since he was only 15 months old. I showed him how to use them and supervised the first uses of the crayons. He now tosses them now and then, but they don't break. The crayons don't come out either, but he knows better than to throw things THAT hard in the house.

The negative reviews you see for these crayons might be because people who are happy with them don't write about it.
